Hey-Hey-hoo~

October 7^th is my third day in Singapore. Comfortable, but kind of hard to go outside because of the heat, though. As you see, in Malang our average temperature is 25 degrees Celcius, and I bet it’s higher than that here.

Hmm, our second day…at 8 in the morning we assembled at South Canteen to have breakfast. Not all of us, actually as some of us already have breakfast in our hostel. At about nine we were departed by bus to Evergreen. Evergreen is a place where elderly lives after their retirement here in Singapore. Our intentions visiting there is basically to know how is their daily life there, hearing their story, and thus, understanding which problem of theirs could be helped with the technology we’ll be developed.

They are all very nice, especially one elderly we were talking to. She wants us to call her LK. She is 76 years old, but was still full of energy. She even made jokes to break the gap between us.

And after a bit chit-chat with her, we know that one of their problem is the red-emergency ropes installed inside their room. It supposedly to be pulled every time they need help for emergency situation, such as when they’re falling down, or suddenly unable to move.

This rope installed not in one place. But, Auntie LK told us that one day, she fell down rather far from this rope. Oh, she has problem with her feet, by the way. So, at that time she was unable to move and have to crawl all the way to reach nearest emergency ropes.

Anyway, this is the picture we took with her.

After lunch and afternoon prayer we departed by bus from Evergreen to Bollywood Veggies. It is basically a place to conserve plants. Many kind of plants are planted. Some of them, we already saw them in Indonesia, so the fun part is knowing what is that plant called here. But some of them, we never saw in the first place so yeah, it’s fun also.

And lastly, we were also doing nuts-fun thing, like this.

That day was fun, fun, fun! Tireness was just acknowledged when we were back to our hostel. Phew!

At the third day we came to Singapore, we went to evergreen circle, and we went to Bollywood vegies. What we did there? What did we get there?

Evergreen Circle is a community that care about children and elder. It giving care about elder and give them help. Its objectives is to assist vulnerable seniors in obtaining appropriate support services in order to age in place, To provide opportunities for seniors to be active and volunteer in meaningful activities, To promote intergenerational bonding between the young and old.

I was talk to the elder there. At the first time, I was panic and didn’t know how to talk and how to ask something. But fortunately I was accompanied by Mr Kun Ming that can speak mandarin to help me. And what I get from her problem is :
1. She hard to remember something, usually they just write down to her note. But in this age, she also cant write and read well. So she want to use a device that can recorded her voice and play it. She want to bring it.
2. She want to use a device that can tell the evergreen center when she is in or still outside her apartment.
3. Usually she forgot to remove her key from the key hole.

Usually the problem almost same with other friend and TF scale before us. The problem is around about to reminder something and about security of herself.

The second agenda, we went to Bollywood Veggie. I thought, because of it name is “Bollywood” it connected with “Bollywood” from India. But I was wrong. It has no Connectivity. Bollywood Veggie is a farm, with a thousand kind of plant. There are so many plant that I didn’t know in Indonesia, I found in that place.

This is the fourth day we came to the Singapore. Our Schedule is reporting and problem Identification. We presented about what we found in the Evergreen and Bollywood Veggie. We found there are many problem with them. We share about it and got a conclusion there are some identical problem:
1. They are forgetful
2. They think the security in her unit is not so good

With that problem, we want to make a project that can help them in daily life. We make o home observer to observe her home. We focus in the security, to capture who is guest come to her house. We use ultrasonic sensor to detect if there is someone in front the door, and capture it with webcam. The second function in this project is to capture home condition with some of sensor as like gas, light, etc. Then sent it to the official, or family, or personal helper.

Wednesday, October 7, 2015 (3^rd day in Singapore), the schedule is visiting Evergreen and Bollywood Vegie. We gathered together to go to Evergreen by bus at 9 am.

Evergreen Circle Neighbourhood Link was started in 2001 with support from MCYS to serve the elderly residents of Tampines Grove RC. In there we did observation to elderly people.. We ask some of the problem they got in their daily activities which can be our reason to make a program or appliacation that will help them face their problem. Some of their problem are: forgot to bring wallet and key when out from the home, forgot to turn off the lamp, hard to reach emergency button, need some entertainment, leave the house key in the outside of the door, so someone can take it and use it to thieving their stuff in home.

It’s such a great activities, because I knew how the elderly life, their problem also, and how their social activity is. And I also motivated to make a program or application which can help them to make their life easier.

 

After that, at 1.45 pm we were going to Bollywood Veggie. It’s a green and beautiful place. We saw so many plants in there. One of the plants is a fruit from Indonesia named Kedondong. It’s also a good place to take a picture. In there we bought ice cream, cheap but tasty. Also, we were playing basketball together and having fun.
