Trip down to Malang, Indonesia

We are down with one week left for the trip and I must admit that it has been nothing short but amazing. I’ve learned so much, gained new insights and made new friends along the way. This trip tested my capabilities and I found out things about myself which I never knew I possessed. People would’ve thought that being away for 2 weeks is a bit too long for a school trip but I beg to differ.

As a student journalist for this trip, most of our work comes in at the end of the day. I can count the number of hours of sleep I got so far during the first week. Unpleasant and crazy, but it was worth it. To think of it now, working in teams of 4 for such a huge scale project is a bit crazy (outbound). Usually, it’d take whole lot more of people but I’m glad to say that despite the lack of manpower, we were able to pull through it together. I would definitely not be able to do it alone and this goes out to my team.

We faced a lot of problems during this trip and some way or another, I developed this mindset, “There’s a solution to every problem, big or small.” This is not new but this mindset gets me going. No matter what problems we faced, we had to make do with what we have.

On another note, Malang has been incredible. It is definitely different from Singapore in terms of its environment and the weather (slightly). We got to experience things that we probably will never get to back home such as hiking Mt. Bromo, water rafting and even visiting an orange (green) farm.

All in all, I’d definitely recommend students to sign up for such trips because it will be an eye-opener and it will challenge one’s capabilities to the fullest. It’s not everyday we get these kind of opportunities and I am glad I signed up for it and was chosen to be part of this team. So, thank you for this amazing trip.
