Something That I Learn

On Wednesday, we went to visit the Evergreen and Hollywood Veggie. The purpose of the visit was to find a problem, which will have to solve. After looking for information in the Evergreen, we got a problem. The problem was about the lighting system, and emergency ropes.

In the second week we were in Singapore. We’re doing some kind of research to create a lighting system with Raspberry-Pi. After discussion with the group, we agreed to make the Automatic Lamp System. This system uses the principle sum. When people go into a room, the sensor will count +1, and if there are people out of the room, then the sensor will count -1. As long as the value of the sum is greater than 0, then the room lights will turn on.

We decided to make an Automatic Light System simulator. Once we agreed with our project, we bought equipment and components we needed. After getting the materials we needed, we started working on our project. We create a program for the sensor, arrange sensors on the doors. Sensors made of two pairs of infrared transmitter receiver.

Sensors are arranged side by side, so that when someone comes from the right side to the left past the sensor, then +1, if from the reverse side, then -1. After successfully with sensors, we try to add other features to press the remote as an emergency ropes replacement. Initially we did not know what to use. Then Mr. Jason bought us a remote control relay.

This is Radio Frequency Remote, so that it can be used even obstructed by the wall. We have not used this remote module, so we had to try it. After successfully find a way of operation, we immediately add it to our project. How do remote module work is to emit radio signals at a certain frequency, then the signal received by the receiver, then the signal is converted into a logic 0 or 1 (low or high). The logic then used to drive a relay. So that the movement of this relay, then we use to turn on the alarm bell.

We also added a master switch to turn off all systems, especially when the user wants to sleep. In addition, the system will turn off automatically when no one in the house.

Experience On First Week Outgoing

In the first week in Singapore after my friends and I landed at Changi airport. We were greeted by the students of RP. They welcomed us with a good and friendly. After that we were invited to go to the RP to where we were staying. On the way there, I see a much different city atmosphere with Indonesia. A lot of development on either side of the road, and also the environment is clean.

On the first day, we were introduced to the rooms and the buildings in RP. The environment around the campus are very clean, a field with green grass cared, amazed me. Also a clean campus cafeteria, food hygiene is guaranteed, and the cafeteria system is running well. Such as queue when ordering food, and return the plates to wash after eating, and also remove the bottle into the trash. Everyone seemed to do these rules voluntarily and without coercion.

The next day, we were invited to go to the Evergreen. Evergreen is a place for people who are elderly. We look at the state of the people there. They live in a building similar to the apartment. Where to stay as this makes them come alive as individuals. and most of them live alone. Many incidents of people dying who to rot for weeks.
After that we were invited to Bollywood Veggie. This place looks like a museum of plants in Singapore. Many plant species are preserved there. Most of the plants we have encountered in indonesia.

On Saturday, we invited our new friends from RP to shop for our daily needs in Causeway Point. On the way to the causeway, there is one thing that I never met. All cars turned onto another road immediately stop when we cross into to the crossing. This is very different from Indonesia, because pedestrians have to wait hundreds of motorcycles and cars to turn. So few people are willing to walk.

On Sunday, we went to the USS. We go along with our new friends from RP. We came there around 10 o’clock. All the rides we visited treated well, and visitor safety is guaranteed. We have fun together there. We going back home when the USS almost closed, around 6pm.

Of all those days, we are always accompanied by our new friends from Singapore. They always faithful drove us everywhere, introducing us to the places and buildings in Singapore. They are extraordinary friends.

Of all these visits, many things I learned. Starting from the environment, the queuing system, how to use the elevators, pedestrian rights, and safety. All of that makes Singapore become a fine city. All nice and orderly arranged. However, many residents of the city becomes like a living individual. Such as evergreen, neighborliness life is less. Many of those who live without recognizing its neighbors. Whatever the cause, but I think if this kind of life is not changed, the next generation will be the generation of robots. A generation that will do something only if there is a command.

First Excursion (Evergreen & Bolywood Veggie)

Our next visit is evergreen. Trips to the evergreen approximately 1 hour. Evergreen is a place for people who are elderly. There are a lot of elderly people there. Our goal there is to know their situation, and trying to help them. In that place, we asked some people who have elderly about their condition, about their complaints during their stay there. Most of them live alone. either they do not have family or deliberately abandoned his family. Some of them are still strong to do activities such as swimming and jogging. But there are also some that are not strong enough to do the activity because they was too old. Even to walk must need a support. After finish asking about their situation, we continue our journey towards Bolywood Veggie.

Bolywood veggie is a place to cultivate crops. There are some plants that we have met in Indonesia, but there are also some plants that we have never met. In my opinion, in this place, the plant is greatly appreciated and cared for. In contrast to the places where we live. Some people do not bother with plants. They sometimes leave it unwatered for days. Sometimes even I myself, too. We still lack of concern for the environment. Though the plant has an important role in our lives. They as a provider of oxygen. After a day of walking around looking at Bolywood Veggie plant species, we finally got back to campus because it was getting late, and we were too tired. Today, we learn many new things, about the relationship with the elderly, and about protecting the environment. We hope this new thing will be very useful to change the world into a better world.

First Impression

The only word that can express my impression when I took the first step down from the plane to Changi Airport is “Cool”. It so far different from the Juanda Airport in Surabaya. I feel like landing on a new place that i never come before.  But then I realize, it’s not just my feeling when I saw RP students who gave me and my friends a welcome greetings. They took me and my friends to look around Changi Airport. The Airport was so big, I feel so amazed and happy when we walk around. Because it was getting late, we finally headed to the RP to break. In RP we got a very comfortable room. In the room there are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The bathrooms are clean and nice. Then we showered and then we had dinner. After that we break, because we were very tired.

On the next day. we were invited to the cafeteria for breakfast. the cafeteria was so huge, and there are plenty of food choices. But we can not arbitrarily select the food, because we can only eat food that is hallal. At that moment, I choose to buy Mie Siam. It does not seem much different from the usual dishes I ate. After breakfast, we went to the room LTW2 for opening. In the room, I see a lot of recipients of Riau, Cambodia, and Myanmar. After the opening end, we were invited to walk around the campus. Daryl and some of our new friends from RP took us to various rooms in the RP. RP campus is huge. Perhaps if at that time we were just walking alone, we would be lost. We are very happy, because there are a lot of things and a new atmosphere that we saw. After walking around the campus, the day began in the afternoon. We are back to where we were staying for a break. Because tomorrow we are still have activities that we are going to do. That day we were very pleased.
