Second week in Singapore, time to do the Raspberry Pi Project. In the first day, we departed to IDA and learnt about some Raspberry Project. So many samples of the project, one of them is 3D Printing that can print 3D  object. It works by layering plastic then make 3D shape.

After that, we discuss about the item list of our project. And we made some conclusion to decided total price of items. Then we went to Sim Lim Tower to bought all items.

Second day, we did our project for the first time in E53A. Title of our project is “PrevenThief Pi”. That is a tool that can help elderly to prevent if any fake person diguise to be evergreen official. So that’s way some material of elderly have been loss. This project is using card that contains QR Code to indicated Evergreen Official. If Evergreen Official want to enter elderly’s room so he must tapping his card to show he is Evergreen Official or not.

To make Preventhief Pi, we need some hardware like:

1. Raspberry Pi as main of the project (microprocessor)
2. SD Card as (saving media)
3. Ultrasonic Sensor as sensor detection if any person in front of sensor
4. Web Camera use to scanning QR Code
5. Pi Camera use to capture person that in front of the door
6. LCD as display evergreen official’s biodata
7. RGB LCD display notification if Evergreen official want to enter
8. Speaker show alert (voice) if Evergreen official want to enter

We have finished installation, and configuration of Ultrasonic sensor to the Pi camera. So Pi camera can use to capture if the person in front of camera. Third day we finished the installation and QR Code configuration. So web camera can scan QR Code and we have done configuration to check that QR Code in card same or not with database. Fourth day, we finished output of the project, like showing notification  on RGB LCD, display biodata of Evergreen Official on LCD and show alert as voice by speaker.

Last day, that we have to done our project. We made a simulation like home (room). There were to display inside and outside of the room. For inside, we place speaker and LCD, for outside we place Pi Camera, web camera and RGB LCD. After that we were going to present our project.

I got a lot of experience after doing this project. For example, I have to know how is the problem comes up and interview the subject like elderly. I got a lot of beneficial too, example increase my technical skill and my soft skill to learn how to be good team work. So that’s way our project was done.

Today is a special day for all members of TF SCALE II of Indonesia namely Politeknik Negeri Malang (Polinema) and Poltekom Malang. We carry out the journey from Indonesia about two hours to arrive at Singapore Changi Airport. There, we were happy because we have been welcomed with specials by lecturers and students of RP, do not forget Mr. Yan also welcomed us.

The first impression I got was they were very polite and open. After that we establish a joint photo session and introduced themselves respectively. Then we invited to walk around Changi Airport magnificent and beautiful while waiting for students from Myanmar and Cambodia up at the airport. There we do selfie together and enjoy each corner of the airport. I was so amazed to see the beauty of Changi airport serving a variety of other rare side I found. Clean service, guaranteed security and a wonderful atmosphere.

Promptly at 6 pm we gather with students from other countries, namely Myanmar and Cambodia. Here is the cultural diversity of different countries SCALE TF II began. We are different merge into one. Do not know the difference, did not know where we came from. Only one of which should be known that unity. : D

The first week on vacation in singapore, me and my friends went to Universal Studio on Sunday. We use bus and MRT for transportation to go to Universal Studio . This is very memorable moment  for me and my friends as we go anywhere using the MRT in Singapore. It was also the first time we went to the USS (Universal Studios Singapore).

In Indonesia, there are also recreation place like USS but with  smaller size. In Malang, we have JATIMPARK, similar to the USS. But of course much better USS .The trip to the USS very fun, because we were not stuck in traffic. The bus ride was comfortable and not too hot. MRT also comfortable so we really enjoyed our trip. After arriving to the USS, we took photos in front of the USS icon. I took lots of photos with my friends there . Then we drive around in the USS and enjoy every view there. Many places with theme of Europe, America, and countries in the world.

The first attraction that I was riding was Transformers. Inside the attraction, me and my friends using small car and we used the three-dimensional glasses. We were taken on a tour like being in a real Transformer movie. Very cool ! It’s a very unique experience for me. I’m amazed how people can make the attraction as cool as this! We toured the USS together with our friends from the RP. They were very good at all and accompanied  us around and drove us back to our hostel. They  are very good and friendly. I Love You Guys!

A lot of experience that I have got on first weekend. One of the memorable moment is Excursion to Marina Barrage. When I arrived in the Marina Barrage, it was look beautiful. I can learn about filterization of water in Singapore. How people can make sea water to be plain water. There were some explanation that make me understand about filterization. Then the tour guide, introduce us abaout Marina Barrage and let us to take a picture.

When we went to the top of Marina Barrage, I feel so high. Moreover, I feel touch the sky. The view is very beautiful. And this is my best picture from Politeknik Negeri Malang. We try to jump as high as we can.

I can saw many views in Singapore and one of my favourite place is Singapore Flyer. I wanna there someday. Not far from Singapore Flyer there was Marina Baysand that so beautiful also. First excursion is very amazing and I feel so excited have joined it. Because I can learnt something new that I don;t know before.

In the first week in Singapore after my friends and I landed at Changi airport. We were greeted by the students of RP. They welcomed us with a good and friendly. After that we were invited to go to the RP to where we were staying. On the way there, I see a much different city atmosphere with Indonesia. A lot of development on either side of the road, and also the environment is clean.

On the first day, we were introduced to the rooms and the buildings in RP. The environment around the campus are very clean, a field with green grass cared, amazed me. Also a clean campus cafeteria, food hygiene is guaranteed, and the cafeteria system is running well. Such as queue when ordering food, and return the plates to wash after eating, and also remove the bottle into the trash. Everyone seemed to do these rules voluntarily and without coercion.

The next day, we were invited to go to the Evergreen. Evergreen is a place for people who are elderly. We look at the state of the people there. They live in a building similar to the apartment. Where to stay as this makes them come alive as individuals. and most of them live alone. Many incidents of people dying who to rot for weeks.
After that we were invited to Bollywood Veggie. This place looks like a museum of plants in Singapore. Many plant species are preserved there. Most of the plants we have encountered in indonesia.

On Saturday, we invited our new friends from RP to shop for our daily needs in Causeway Point. On the way to the causeway, there is one thing that I never met. All cars turned onto another road immediately stop when we cross into to the crossing. This is very different from Indonesia, because pedestrians have to wait hundreds of motorcycles and cars to turn. So few people are willing to walk.

On Sunday, we went to the USS. We go along with our new friends from RP. We came there around 10 o’clock. All the rides we visited treated well, and visitor safety is guaranteed. We have fun together there. We going back home when the USS almost closed, around 6pm.

Of all those days, we are always accompanied by our new friends from Singapore. They always faithful drove us everywhere, introducing us to the places and buildings in Singapore. They are extraordinary friends.

Of all these visits, many things I learned. Starting from the environment, the queuing system, how to use the elevators, pedestrian rights, and safety. All of that makes Singapore become a fine city. All nice and orderly arranged. However, many residents of the city becomes like a living individual. Such as evergreen, neighborliness life is less. Many of those who live without recognizing its neighbors. Whatever the cause, but I think if this kind of life is not changed, the next generation will be the generation of robots. A generation that will do something only if there is a command.

It’s time to have a quality time with Raspberry Pi for a week. Yeaahh, I’m so excited to build a project that can be useful for the elderly. To build our project, on the first day we must think and have a list of all stuff we need then shop all the things that we need at Sim Lim Tower. Then we do our project and make it real for the next 3 days and we had a presentation on Friday. On that week I learn how to work in a team, we must know each character of our team member, also help and respect each other, we must be a good listener if someone’s talking, actually communication is the most important thing if we work as a team because without an effective communication there will be miss understanding and maybe it’ll give a bad impact to the jobs. This week’s not about how sophisticated our project, is about how we can finish our goal that we plan with our way and how we enjoy this jobs and every single day together.

As an Indonesian, I used to adapt how to live at Singapore for this 3 weeks. And from 2 weeks I learn how to live there from Singaporean, yaah I’ve already observe how’s Singaporean live ,and that’s the result:

1. Diversity country

Characterised by a diversity of religious beliefs and practices due its diverse ethnic mix of peoples originating from various countries (Malay, India, Chinese)

2. Use Singlish

Based of English that spoken in Singapore that use a particular dialect with its unique intonations and grammar, while English is one of Singapore’s official languages.

3. Walk fast

By the time I live at Singapore and I must walk to go to other place not to ride motorcycle / bicycle / car like in Indonesia, nowadays I learn to be a Singaporean that can walking fast, so I can save my money to buy something not to fill the gasoline for my motorcycle like in Indonesia. I think better go around by a walk then use any transportation because it can decrease the polute and more environmentally friendly.

4. Keep left

In Singapore, the right side just for fast walker. So if you want to stop on the escalator just keep on the left side and let people behind pass your right side. I think that’s like Jalan Tol in Indonesia for car and in there was happen to the people not car anymore.

5. Tidy, discipline(ontime), clean

This part is the most part I want to adapt for my own country, Indonesia. Why I want that? Because actually Indonesia is not tidy and clean enough like Singapore because the government hasn’t be able to firmly curb something wrong in Indonesia. I give you small example like when we’re littering at Indonesia there;s no punishment for it but for Singapore there’s a fine when you littering actually $500. I think that’s good for make the residents more discipline, maybe we can implement Fine too in Indonesia to make Indonesia a tidy, clean and discipline country.

On Saturday, we had our second excursion to Marina Barrage. It is a government-commissioned dam built across the mouth of Marina Channel and it’s separates the water in Marina Basin from the seawater. The barrage is dubbed a three in one project as it serves three objectives: 1) Create a new source of water supply, 2) Act as a tool for flood control, 3) Provide a new life style attraction. The guide that brought us walked around Marina Barrage tell us little bit about how does Marina Barrage works, under normal conditions, the hydraulically-operated gates will be closed. When there is heavy rain but the tide is low, the gates will open to release excess water into the sea. When heavy rain coincides with high tide, the gates will remain closed while the pumps will be activated to pump the excess water out to sea.With this system, the barrage alleviates flooding in low-lying areas in the city, including Chinatown, Jalan Besar and Geylang. It also keeps the reservoir’s water level constant, thereby making it suitable for water-based activities such as sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and dragonboating. Visitors that come to the barrage can take a scenic walk on Marina Bridge, a pedestrian bridge that sits atop the nine crest gates and connects Marina South to Marina East. At the Marina South end of the bridge is the Visitor Centre, which has been designed to look like a seashell from the top. So, I think it’s important to have such kind of barrage at least 1 or more barrage for each country to keep and control the water volume, to prevent the flood and also to produce mineral water that can be consume by all of residents in that country.

This Wednesday we were scheduled to visit a nursing home the Evergreen and Bollywood Veggies. As usual in the morning before we left we had breakfast in south canteen (Koufu). After waiting a while for our bus came and we went to where we are headed today.

The purpose we going to there (evergreen) we want to share our technology or our hardskill in IT actually. We can help them (elders) with our knowledge, specially using RaspBerry Pi. Fisrt we did some interview to them. Her is Airine, name who elders I have been interviewed. When I ask her about “Do You Have Problem in daily activity ?”. She answered “No, I have no Problem, if I got I just call officer and averything will be okey”. Actually I got shock when I heard it.

May be I must search gap where I can make something that can help her. The elders is very talkactive he directly tell about her son, daughter, and grandson. When she told about her family she said sometimes she difficulty to calling her son who oversea in USA. She need some helps from her private docter. Another Problem which she told is sometime she over thinking when no doing anything, because she over thinking it can she got bloodpreasure, she told to me one night she gotten some boy climb to her floor, then they drunk and smoking it make she so scare.

From those interview or history I must get some answers or resolves that can help eldery. After I went to EverGreen.  I got PBL method in RP, how us get resolves from eldery problem. Finally my team (Team 2) make a project that can observe and can secure eldery’s home.

After i went to Evergreen actually i went to Bollywoodveggies. In that place i can saw many plant, actually in Indonesia i can meet plant like in that place in back of my home. I can get something new, actually the name of plant some same and some other difference in Indonesia. Many mosquito in there, i got some bite of mosquito. I think bollywoodveggies very interesting for SG’s citizen, because SG have not larger land to do something like farming. In Bollywoodveggie I went arround with my Indonesian and Singaporian Friends, then we did not forget to take photo together.
